Add Attributes to an Existing Category

Attributes are extra fields that appear on every device in a category — CPU and RAM on a Laptop, IMEI on a Mobile, Screen size on a Monitor. You can define them when you first create the category (see Create a New Category), or add them later as your inventory practice evolves. This page covers the later case.

Open the category for editing

  1. Click Categories in the sidebar.
  2. Select the category tile you want to extend.
  3. Click the pencil icon in the top-right of the detail pane to open the edit view.

Add an attribute

  1. Click + Add Attribute to insert a new row at the bottom of the attribute list. Each row has:

    FieldNotes
Name2–25 characters. Examples: Memory, CPU, IMEI.
    TypeText, Number, or Date.
Prefix / SuffixOptional (max 5 characters each). Useful for currencies and units: $, GB, .
RequiredToggle on to force the field to be filled when a device is added to this category.
  2. Repeat for each additional attribute. The counter next to the Attributes heading (e.g. 3/6) tracks usage — each category supports up to 6 attributes.

  3. Optionally, toggle Show property values in device name on if you want attribute values appended to the device's display name in lists and tiles (e.g. MacBook Pro (16, M3)).

  4. Click Save at the bottom of the editor.

The new attributes appear on every device in the category. Existing devices keep their values for unchanged attributes; newly-added attributes start empty until you fill them in on each device.

Removing an attribute

To remove a single attribute without deleting the whole category, see Delete Category Metadata.
