Assign a Category to a Device
Categories take a device from "thing with a name" to a structured inventory record. You'll usually pick a category when you first create a device, but reassigning later is just as quick.
When creating a new device
On the Add Device panel, the Category drop-down sits next to the Serial Number field. Pick the category and — if it has attributes like CPU or RAM — the attribute fields slide in below it, pre-formatted with any configured prefix or suffix. Fill them in and save.
Changing the category on an existing device
- Open the device from the Devices page.
- In the information panel on the right, click Edit below the device name.
- Pick a new value from the Category drop-down.
- Click Save in the top-right corner.
The new category's attributes appear below the field as soon as you select it — fill them in before saving if they're required.
