Create a New Device
Add a device — laptop, monitor, mobile, anything with a serial number — to your inventory.
Edit a Device
Most device fields can be edited directly from the information panel that opens when you click a device in the list.
Copy a Device
Use Copy to quickly create multiple devices that share the same category, price, warranty, and vendor — for example, when a batch of identical laptops arrives.
Assign a Device
Devices can be assigned to an employee, a place, or the IT Department (unassigned inventory). Assignment drives the device status, the owner shown on the tile, and whether a notification email is sent.
Devices Page Overview
The Devices page is the home for every device in your tenant. It offers two layouts (card and list), quick filters and sorting, and a right-side detail panel that lets you read and edit a single device without leaving the list.
Device Statuses
Status tracks where a device is in its lifecycle: New in stock, In-use with an employee, Damaged or In-Service during repair, and eventually Discarded or End of Life when it leaves your fleet. It's the field that drives the Dashboard counts, the Risk and Assignment-Coverage gauges, and the coloured badge on every tile and table row.
Move a Device to Another Tenant
Transfer a device from the current tenant into another one in your organization — useful when an employee relocates between offices, when equipment shifts between business units, or when you're consolidating multiple legacy tenants into one.
Search & Filter Devices
TheStorage provides two complementary tools for finding devices: filter chips on the Devices page for structured, multi-select filtering, and the global search bar in the top navigation for quick free-text lookups.
Sort Devices
Change the order in which devices appear on the Devices page. Sorting works identically in both Card view and List view.
Delete a Device
Permanently remove a device from your inventory.
Warranty Management
Track warranty expiration dates for your devices. TheStorage provides visual indicators to help you quickly identify which devices are still covered.
Comments
Add free-text remarks to devices for additional context that doesn't fit structured fields. Comments support up to 200 characters per device and are displayed with a yellow background for quick visibility.
