Copy a Device
Use Copy to quickly create multiple devices that share the same category, price, warranty, and vendor — for example, when a batch of identical laptops arrives.
When is Copy available?
Copy is available only for devices in New status. Once a device is assigned to a user or place — and so becomes In-use — the Copy action is hidden, because copying a deployed device usually means you're about to create stale duplicates by accident.
How to copy
-
Navigate to Devices and select a device with New status.
-
In the top action bar of the information panel, click Copy.

-
In the Copy of #N dialog:
- Set the Number of copies using the − / + buttons (up to 7 per operation).
- A serial-number row appears for each copy — fill in a unique value per row.
- A live preview on the right shows what the resulting devices will look like.
-
Click Save to create the copies.

What is copied?
| Field | Copied? |
|---|---|
| Category + category attributes | ✅ |
| Price & currency | ✅ |
| Invoice data (number, date, vendor) | ✅ |
| Warranty duration & end date | ✅ |
| Device image | ✅ |

Barcode behavior
If Barcode generation is enabled in Settings → Barcode, each copy receives a freshly generated barcode. If barcode generation is disabled, copies have no barcode until one is entered manually.
Things worth knowing
- For more than 7 identical devices in one go, use Import with the Excel template — Copy is capped at 7 per operation by design.
- Copies always land in New status and assigned to IT Department, regardless of the source device's state. That matches the typical workflow: register a batch of stock, then assign each unit when it goes out.
- The source device is never modified — copying is read-only on the original.
